How do I find an old Camp Leah friend?
You can contact David Kahn at (303) 600-8885.   But first you should check the directory page on this web site.
If these don't prove fruitful, try the Internet Yahoo People Search website where you can search for anyone listed in a phonebook. This is often a very effective way of hunting someone down.

What are some Camp Leah Quotes?:
(1) "Camp was a precursor to my entire life." -- JonaKarina (Freedman) Whisenant
(2) "It may sound corny, but my Leah experience was one of the most influential experiences I have ever had in my life. It was the gateway to many other experiences I have had in the post-Leah years: loves, travels, jobs, etc." Jesse Siegel, now named Jesse Sibarium, is in Moldova, a tiny country nestled between Romania and Ukraine. He has spent the last two years there serving in the Peace Corp. He returned for the reunion.
(3) "The reason for my interest in the reunion is because Camp Leah enriched my son's life..new experiences, fond memories, friendships, etc. and it indirectly enriched mine."

Did anyone that went to Camp Leah together wind up getting married later on?
Leah-to-Leah marriages :
(1) Rob Abend and Angela Ceccato are happily married with a little one. The rumor was false about their separation.
(2) Dan Lockwood is wed to Caren Agata.
(3) Lainie Haza & Daniel Rubin met in camp and eventually got married.
(4) Bill Hyman and Aida Fryman also met in camp and eventually married. They are still close friends with 20-30 camp people. Now get this, Alan Hyman (Bill's Brother) and Myra Berman also found each other in camp and got married.
(5) Alison Rand married another Camp Leahite named Eric Morales. They hardly even knew each other back in Leah.
(6) Amy Raskin and Peter Haverstraw. They had much to do with the 1970's reunion a few years back.
(7) Bonnie Blonder and Andrew Scoenfeld also are living happily ever after.
(8) Josh Meyer and Wendy Kasserman spend their time lifeguarding their two children.
(9) Irene and Rabbi Morales not only met in camp but, this is not joke, actually got married in Camp Leah.
(10) Paul Lieberman and Sheila Friedman met in Edalia / Leah in 1967

Leah Alumni

What is the Alumni organization?
The Educational Alliance is creating an alumni organization, consisting of alumni from many of their programs. The organization keeps people connected to programs and services that the Alliance offers. You can visit the Educational Alliance Alumni Web Site by selecting the hotlink. One day we should ask them to construct a Camp Leah Senior Citizens Home.

There is also an informal but very active alumni organization strictly for Camp Leah. David Kahn manages the informal alumni network. This network maintains relationships, plans events, set up the Camp Leah web site, and helps people to find each other.
What will the Educational Alliance use my contributions for?
If you contribute to their fundraising events, the Educational Alliance uses the funding toward running their various programs. You can contribute toward specific programs or to the Alliance in general. Visit their web page above for more details

History

When did Camp Leah begin?
As Camp Edalia - 1915
As Camp Leah - Late 60's
Who ran Camp Leah?
The Educational Alliance.
How did Camp Leah come to be?
In 1950 Camp Edalia (an acronym for Educational Alliance) opened in Rumson, New Jersey. Camp Edalia was a vacation home for young girls. Camp Edalia and Cummings Village began operating out of Bear Mountain in 1951, serving 8 to 14 year old boys and girls. In the early 70's, the camp changed its name to Camp Leah in honor of Leah Cummings. Leah Cummings was the wife of Israel Cumming, a long time Alliance Vice President and benefactor.
Any Good Stories About Camp?
In 1966, when camp was still called Edalia, senior side was where Iroquis used to be and the LTGs were even further around the lake. There was a Junior Rec Hall, condemned, but still standing, behind the chaffeur's shack (One summer a bunk lived there for most of the first trip) and the director was not Jay but a guy with a severe case of palsey named Ray Ozorow. The reason the bunk slept in the Junior Rec Hall was that the teens were officially in a "work camp" and the bunk project was to rebuild our real bunk (the closest teen bunk to the road. They laid a new floor, stained the interior and built a rock garden. The teen trail was one of their projects.

Senior side as we know it was once a girl scout camp called Rocky Glen. Leah took it in 1968. They operated on their own time, which was one hour earlier than the rest of the world, so their reveille at 6 A.M. used to wake up people on Teen Side. Do you recall the building known as the Old Infirmary on senior side? When Leah took over Rocky Glen, the staff found a map of that camp describing the building in question as the Old Infirmary, so Leah adopted that name.
